Hard Disk failing, need to repair

I bought a 13" MacBook Pro 1 1/2 years ago. It had Snow Lepoard installed. Since then I upgraded to Lion, through the App store. My hard disk is now failing and I need to get it up long enough to do a backup. I tried to reinstall the OS, but get errors throught eh app store, and when I put the snow leopard disk in, it cannot install it on my hard drive, as it is a newer version, How can I get lion on a CD to boot from?

If that's the case and the hard drive won't spin long enough to get data off, the only way will be to send it to a Data Recovery service....can be very expensive...depending on how much data..... upwards of $1000.00 sometimes!!

If the drive spins long enough, You could try the free demo of DataRescue 3 . If the demo "sees" your stuff, you can purchase the full version to rescue the bigger files.

If you don't hear any clicking sound from the hard drive, it is a good sign that your hard drive is still accessable and you can remove the data. Since they are going to replace the hard drive I would suggest you use a SATA to USB adapter and connect the old hard drive to the Macbook and transfer the data that way.

However, if it is clicking then you are out of luck and as Dale suggested send it to a data recover center.
