iPod Touch (1st gen) begins to turn on then shuts itself off

Hi, as the tite says, my ipod Touch 1st gen keeps trying to turn on and getting as far as the apple logo screen for a short while and then turns itself off. my ipod was having some other problems a couple weeks ago so I plugged it into my mom's mackbook to fix it with iTunes (MY laptop's HD with all of my music got fried so I used my mother's Macbook. Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm full of technical problems) but anyhow, my iPod was fixed but I also used my mom's Macbook to back my ipod up before I fixed it back then. Well since it was fixed then, my iPod is now running into this NEW problem AND my backup got deleted from my mom's Macbook.

That being said, the only thing that still MIGHT have my music on it is my iPod and I can't get it to turn on to see. I really don't want to do this whole "restore mode" thing everyone is suggesting because it is going to delete everything off of my ipod. Therefore, if there is ANYTHING I can do to possibly get my music back without erasing everything, I'd appreciate any advise. Thank you!

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Okay thanks! I will try this when I get home but A: when I do the whole reset thing whilst holding the two buttons, do I do this while plugged into a computer or while not? Also, when you say go to settings etc, this will appear on the iPod or in iTunes or something? Lastly, when you say restore from backup, I have no backups as stated in my original post. Is there a way to retrieve data from my IPod even if it won't turn on or is that also something Apple support in the store would have to help me with? Thanks!

Makes no difference

Setting is on the iPod
