Factory reset

I'm getting a MacBook Pro from my friend. I want to factory rest it completely. He's not sure if he has the snow leopard disk or anything like that at all. Lets say he never finds it. I want to reset everything and put the new mountain lion on it. Can I still log into the MacBook after I reset it and log into my own account and buy mountain lion on the App Store or do I have to go to an apple store and buy the actual cd? Also how do I reset it back to factory settings? Thanks or your help.

You need the original disks. Have your friend call Apple and get a replacement set.

Is it possible that I can buy the new mountain lion disk at an apple store and do it that way?

There is no Mountain Lion disc - you just download it from the App Store.

You'll need the disc(s) that shipped with the MBP in order to do a clean install. You or your friend can order them by calling 1-800-MYAPPLE.

There is no DVD for Mountain Lion. It is purchased and downloaded from the App Store. The programs on the present machine are registered to your friend. Get the Snow Leopard disks!
