cell borders

I teach a language and am trying to make a word list on one side and then next to it an empty line next to the word. i can't seem to get it to work in numbers.

open the inspector by clicking the blue "i", and go to the yellow "table" tab. There is a section titled "cell borders" that lets you customize your spreadsheet like you were talking about. In the image, I have chosen the option that will let you control the lines for students to answer on. You can change the line style, thickness, and color for each side/top/bottom line that you can select within the cell borders section.

Thanks. I appreciate the help. I for some reason can't see the picture you were trying to show me, but I already spent three days trying to use this cell border pop up menu; highlighting line,using thick line, and to to no end have not been able to get it to work. Another problem is that i can't see what has been changed if I do try to change the cell border. I have to print it or do to show print preview to see the changes. I tried to do it with Mariner softeware for Mac and it literally took me 1 minute to get it to work. I basically bought this product for no reason.
