mini won't connect to wifi

My iPad mini won't conntect to any wireless network. I've checked numerous networks and triple-checked that the password is correct. Regardless, it just won't connect to any wifi network. I have restored the iPad, reset the network settings, turned it on and off and anything else I could think of, but it just won't connect to any network.

Please advise on how to fix this problem as I've had it now for two days and it's very frustrating that it doesn't work properly. 😠

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Thanks for the info. I'll try some of these suggestions.

Most of these suggestions deal with changing settings on the router. While that may help when I can control the router settings, there are many instances in which your in a public setting and the router cannot be controlled. For example, I was at a mall today attempting to show a client something online via the iPad, which identified two available wireless networks. The iPad would connect to niether of them.

I'll keep you posted as to whether or not some of these articles help the situation.

I took the iPad to the local Apple store, where they said that the iPad worked just fine, but it certainly doesn't.

I have run into the same issue yesterday. The interesting thing I have found is that I can connect to wi-fi network when I'm in a close proximity to access point or router, but as soon as you step away from it like 2-3m you couldn't connect anymore. I did restart, network settings reset. Didnt help

Also it seems that Nov 26-27 is kind of magic days for iPad Mini. Multiple reports on the same issue on these days

Well I had my wireless start getting strange a few days ago and losing my connection at my work wireless network. Last night when I got home it no longer worked there. After about 2 hours with support I have an appointment for Saturday at an Apple Store to get it looked at. But after the call what I did was turn my wireless router at home to 5GHZ only and the iPad started working, but now back at the office it is not. Not sure how the Dual band antenaa works, but I'm thinking that is the issue.

I'm having the same problem. I gave my ipad to service. They said that it's broken. The poroblem is, they can not give me new one, because in Poland there is no possibility to replace or fix it. All I can do is waiting. I think is very unproffesional and off color. I never thought that Apple divides customoers for better and worse... (the iPad mini has been sold since 2nd November).

Nov 30, 2012 10:25 AM in response to birishd

Birishd is right. Once I upgraded to iOS 6.0.1, it would only work on 5GHz wi-fi networks and wouldn't connect to any 2.5GHz networks.

I took it into the local apple store and they replaced it with a new one that came with iOS 6.0, which had no problem connecting to 2.5GHz networks. I gave it a week to make sure it was working propoerly and then updated the iOS to 6.0.1. This time it works just fine.

So, the short of it is that if you have this problem, make Apple give you a new iPad.

I've had the same issue but mine would connect to my apple wireless router but not to any others. I even checked as my iPhone, MacBook Pro, and wife's ipad II would connect but not the ipad mini. After three phone calls Apple recommended that I take it in and exchange it. Got a new one now and it connects perfectly to all those routers that the first one didn't.

Mine connects at home (airport express) and Starbucks (assuming airport express?) but will not connect in majority of public places. Not a good thing when you are trying to connect in a hotel on business etc. the annoying thing is that my iPhone and my hubby's regular ipad connects - just really annoying. When I visit people for the weekend I take the airport express and plug it into their router as I can never connect to their network.

I just recently returned from a vacation in Peru - 5 hotels and all public wife's and the mini would not connect BUT my iPhone, my friends ipad, and android tablet all connected.

People who ask me about the pros and cons of the mini I usually suggest that the reconsider if using it outside their home.
