HELP!! MBP Core Duo Does Not Recognize Keyboard on Startup
I couple of days ago I installed OS X 10.6.0 (DVD) to a clean partition. When I restarted, I got an immediate kernel panic. I tried to restart from the OS X 10.6.0 install DVD, but the MBP does not seem to recognizing the keyboard when holding the C key! As well, I have tried every key combination I know to get the startup to proceed from the DVD (or FW drive), but no luck:
- Held C on startup - DVD accessed for a couple seconds, but still goes to HDD: kernel panic
- Held Option key, - no loader window; goes to HDD: kernel panic
- Held Opt-Cmd-P-R to reset PRAM - no chimes, goes direct to HDD: kernel panic
- Held Shift key (safe mode) - kernel panic
- Held T key to attemp target mode - kernel panic
- Remove battery and mag safe power to drain internal battery backup and reset PRAM; waited for about 5 minutes; pressed the power button for about 15 seconds; plugged in mag safe (no battery) - goes direct to HDD: kernel panic
- Repeat #6, but waited overnight - goes directly to HDD: kernel panic
I have tried every trick I know (short of removing the HDD) including plugging in a USB keyboard, (same results as built in keyboard).
FYI - Holding down the click button below the track pad DOES eject any disc in the DVD slot.
Does anyone have any other options that I can use to get at least to the DVD drive so that I can launch disk utility?
BTW - When I tried to boot with a Disk Warrior 4.3 DVD (which I have used many time on THIS mac), the disc was ejected immediately, then kernel panic.
I have also tried to go back to the original install DVDs, and even though I can easily hear the DVD drive accessing the DVD, restart still goes back to the HDD: kernel panic
Any help or suggestions getting the boot loader up, or restarting from DVD would be greatly appreciated.
My next attempt will probably be to remove the drive and try to repair it via a FW dock.
NOTE: the MBP is the ONLY Intel Mac I have access to, so I am not sure that DU can even repair the drive from a OS X 10.5.8 PPC mac. Thoughts?
TIA
