Hi guys, I need your help badly.

My iPod classic 120gb died on me. Red x. Computer won't recognize it. I have +10000 songs on that iPOd and that iPod alone. I am a music freak. Some of those songs were really hard to find. And I can't remember 10.000 songs to retrieve them all over again. I really need to have a way to somehow copy those songs from that iPod.

Anyone with ideas? You would have no idea how huge my gratitude would be if someone could find the solution.

Browse the web for data recovery programs.  Some say they will work on older model devices. Lesson learned - always keep a backup, especially if your tracks are hard to find.

As Limnos said, you can try and browse for data recovery programs online, but other than, things aren't looking good. :S B-rock

Were you able to successfully connect the iPod to your PC in Disk Mode?

If not, I'm afraid you are out of luck. Your only last hope would be to find a reliable data recovery solution that could try to recover some of the data.  It can be and usually is very expensive though.

Thanks for replying. Sadly enough, it won't go into Disk Mode. So I'm basically done?

I guess that settles it then. No other choice. The frustrating part about it was that I was about to replace this iPod less than 10 days from now + get a back-up external HDD for the songs... Thanks for the help guys.

    Hi,

I'm probably too late to this conversation but I came across it while looking for a solution to a dead iPod issue I have.

It's not fixed yet but I have been able to backup the hard drive.

The problem is slightly different in that the iPod is just dead. Nothing on screen even with external power.

I found if i took the back cover off, disconnecting the battery and the link to the headphones and removed the battery and reconnected it to the lower left corner where it would normally connect, the iPod would start and allow me access from my PC.
