My macbook the alumminum one from late 2008 won't let me put in a cd or dvd. It won't make the noise that it usually makes checking to see if theres a CD or DVD in there. I don't know why it wont let me. Could I get this fixed or would I need to buy a new laptop?

It can probably be fixed. Contact Apple using www.apple.com/support/contact if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider to ask for an estimate.

It wouldn't surprise me if with a Mac that age the drive was gone.
