I am having trouble synching my apps. On I tunes they show up on my computer. When I click sync, it says searching for apps to sync then stops. What am I doing wrong

My wife upgraded to an iphone 5. I got her old iphone 4. I backed up my old iphone 4 with a broken screen and tried to restore the new iphone 4. It appeared half of it synced-I got my contacts but the phone still had her apps on it. I manually deleted her apps and tried again to sync. In i tunes the correct apps were selected but when I clicked sync a brief message appeared saying preparing aps to sync and then it finished with no aps being transferred from my computer to the iphone. What am i doing wrong?
