Just like the title says, my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro 13 running 10.8.2 freezes for an averge of 15 seconds whenever I plug anything into the USB ports. It varies depending on what is plugged in. Phones, both iPhone and Android make it freeze for about 15 seconds, USB drives are usually just a couple seconds. I dont even know where to begin when trouble shooting this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Boot from recovery, repair drive, repair permissions. Did you installed something about usb devices lately? Antiviral software?
I do both of those semi-regularly, part of regular maintenance. I havent installed anything regarding USB devices lately, and no Antivirus software. This started when I updated from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2, so its been a little while, I am just now annoyed enough with it to try and fix it.
Anyone else have any suggestions? I have been messing with my Android phone in the past couple days, and waiting 10-15 seconds after it plugging in to have my computer respond is really bothersome. Is this something I could bring into an apple store and have them look at?
worth a try. you could open the consol and watch log messages when you connect a device. To open the console:
navigate to /Applications/Utilities/
then open the application "Console"
In the "SYSTEM LOG QUERIES" select "All Messages"
then watch as you connect and disconnect

I went into an Apple Store, and they had no idea, but started with resetting the pram and nvram, and that solved the problem for now. I was getting a strange (to me) error in the console, something about the hardware being unavailable, but since the computer was restarted, it isn't doing it anymore, and I didnt save it. Just in case anyone else comes across this problem, reset the pram and nvram, and see what happens.

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro. When I plug in any usb device I get a short freeze of the pc for about 5 seconds. During my tests, I noticed that the freezing starts from the first time that i move the touchpad. It means that if I plug the usb device and I move the touchpad after 30 seconds, I get the freazing from that time for 5 seconds. if I continue to move the touchpad while I plug in the usb I don't get any freeze. Moreover, I noticed that if in the meantime that I plug in the usb I move the touchpad without any interruption, I don't get any freezing.
I don't know if the problem could be related to the touchpad or not... Help!!!

I know this post is a little aged, but there's no solution here, so I'll add that I'm having the same problem as palmierimanual, exactly as he described it. I'll add that my Console doesn't ALWAYS report the last two messages he notes -- sometimes it reports only his first one (AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::message - kIOUSBMessagePortHasBeenReset), sometimes it reports both, and often it reports neither.
I reset my NVRAM to no avail.
Any solutions out there?

Indeed it was the Android File Transfer!
I did remove the app and it stopped freezing imediatelly.
I can confirm that the issue is Android File Transfer. If you want to avoid it again, remove it from the startup System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items

Jumping back into this thread, I am skeptical about Android File Transfer being the problem. Back when I was having this problem, it happened with iPhones, Android phones, iPads, or even just USB drives. Also, I now have a new 15 inch macbook, have Android File Transfer installed, and the problem has not reappeared. I wonder if it was the amount of USB devices I was using on the computer. I was doing cellphone repair at the time, and was plugging in 10+ different devices each day.
I agree. I don't have this android file transfer app installed at all and I'm having this problem with my DJ equipment. I think it has something to do with the Intel Haswell chipset and how it's connected to the USB 3.0 ports.
This happens to me intermittently and I do have Android File Transfer installed, and happens when I connect my Nexus 7.
The funny thing is, to solve it, I just connect my logitech wireless mouse receiver, then disconnect it. Then my keyboard and trackpad is responsive again.
This has been happening to me. I do have Android File Transfer installed. Sometimes unplugging the phone and plugging it back in fixes it. Hassle.
