I have a PowerMac G5 - dual 1.8 GHz with 8 GB RAM (bought in 2004). I am about to replace the logic board and have to perform the thermal calibration. Seeing previous postings, I apparently need the ASD 2.5.8., or possibly 2.5.7. Does anyone have something they could send me?

The ASD is internal Apple software that has not been released to the public.

Does this mean I have to take the risk of installing the new logic board and possibly having the cooling fans running at full spped all the time? I've read where this may damage the logic board.
There is no risk because the fans WILL run at full speed until you run a thermal calibration.
You say that the fans will run at high speed until I run a thermal calibration. How can I do that if I can't get the necessary software to do a thermal calibration? Apple stores no longer will do this service for PowerMacs.
You may have to start looking for someone who can do the job for you locally, who is Apple certified.
I know when my PowerMac Quad lost a processor, the Apple Store told me they could no longer do the work but they did give me the name of someone here in Colorado that could do it. After discussing things with him, I finally decided to give up on my PM and get a Mac Pro instead.
Its simple, you can't. You will have to locate a service provider that can do the job.
I think I may have an ASD 2.5.8 CD, it may take me a day or two to find it, but if I do I will let you know ASAP.

Sorry about that. I made the same mistake that others did. I set it so registered users can see my e-mail. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

My Mac Pro is being used as a PowerPC/Intel file server and print server. All my Macs have access to the mac pro as a server.
