The music on the iPad needs to be transferred to an iTunes library first before it can be synced to an older iPod. You can transfer all iTunes purchases to iTunes by plugging the iPad into a USB port and choosing File -> Transfer Purchases from <name of iPad>.
For non-iTunes store purchases, you'll need the help of third party software to get them off the iPad and into iTunes if they aren't already stored there still.
