iPad mini (Wi-Fi + Cellular Verizon) on GSM networks outside US

Reposting - Anyone with a clue?

Can I use an iPad mini (Wi-Fi + Cellular Verizon) on GSM networks when I travel outside US? The tech spec seems to indicate that it can handle both CDMA EVDO data & GSM/EDGE too.

Also, will it work with 3G data only sims available in certain countries?

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply.

I have one more query in this regard - if I take a CDMA based model (like that with Verizon) - will I need to have it unlocked for usage outside Verizon's network?

Also, as I understand, there are certain CDMA carriers which have a sim-based approach for connectivity, and certain do not offer such functionality - does the iPad Mini require a nano-sim? What to do in case the carriers in the country that I travel to does not offer a nano-sim? Any way to convert a micro-sim to a nano-sim?

The Verizon model is unlocked from the factory. It has the same GSM & LTE capabilities of the AT&T model, plus Verizon's CDMA.

The iPad mini does require a nano SIM. You can cut down a mini or micro SIM. They all have the same size chip, just the plastic is smaller. Do a web search for instructions. I have cut down a US T-Mobile micro SIM and successfully used it in my Verizon iPhone 5.
