home sharing won't work

I have been using homesharing to share music files between my laptop and imac for a couple months now, and all of a sudden it has stopped working. I've tried all the common troubleshooting solutions (i.e. disconnecting and reconnecting router, turning home sharing on and off, system reboots, sharing preferences) and nothing has fixed it. Right now I'm stuck on the default homesharing screen where it says, "Home Sharing is now on. Use the same account when turning on Home Sharing for your other computers." I can't get past this point, please help!
