What are the benefits to using @icloud account over @me. account?

It's not a separate account. It's simply an additional address on your existing account and you can use it or not use it at your own convenience. Your @me.com address will be unaffected.

There are no benefits whatsoever. It is purely cosmetic. Use the one you like best. It's all the same email account, just different email addresses.
