Why can't I see my Airport Extreme or Airport Express via my browser when I type in their IP addresses in the address bar of Safari?

I would like to enter my Airport extreme and my Airport express directly via my browser, but I am unable to do so. I type the router IP in the browser and I get an error message saying the computer can't access the server (or words to that effect). I am able to access both via the Airport Utilty with no problem...what gives?

Airport Extreme and Airport Express-OTHER, Mac OSX v10.7.5

AirportExtreme and Express are not accessible via browser.

Munas - Thanks for the speedy response. Can you elaborate? I used to use another brand of router and was able to enter the set up via a browser. Is the Airport Utility the only means by which I can access the set up of my routers? Is this a security feature? Thanks again...

yes, most of brands use web access to modify routers/access points/wifi etc. Apple goes its way and has an app. Most probably you did not have an app for these routers that were accessible via web. 🙂

Makes sense that Apple would use an app to access the router set up...after all, that's what Apple does ("There's an app for that"). Thanks Munas...you've given me something to think about.
