I cannot sort or filter my table. WhenI try to sort I just get a "bonk". I cannot check the filter or categories check boxes or make those functions work either. Thanks for any help.
Have you merged any cells in your table? This is the most common cause of the symptoms you describe.

There were some merged cells. I deleted those rows, however, and it still will not sort/filter. Thanks for the help though.
can you sort/filter any other tables in that document? what about sorting in another sheet of the same document? What about a table in a different document?
Good suggestion. But, I tried copying table to a new document and still could not sort/filter. Weird.
Try rebuilding the table with a subset of the data as follows:
1) 1st half. see if you can sort that if not then
2) 2nd half
Sort and Filter functions are greyed out and will not work. Help.
