Can I use my old Flying Saucer base station to extend the wifi network of my 5th Gen AirPort Extreme?

I can't seem to get the Aiport Utility to allow this.

I have the Extreme set up to create a wireless network and allow the network to be extended.  I set the old Flying Saucer base station to extend the range of the AirPort Extreme, but I get an error after I type in the wireless network name.  It says "There was an error setting up this AirPort wireless device for WDS. Quit AirPort Utility and try again."

Any thoughts?

Unfortuately, the bottom line here is that the older "round" version of the AirPort Extreme does not have a Wireless Mode setting to "Extend a wireless network"....and that it is the setting that you need to work correctly with the newer AirPort Extreme.

What is needed is an "n" version of the AirPort Extreme to be able to extend the network in a compatible fashion. This would be any of the "square" versions of the AirPort Exteme....but not the older "round" version.

    Thanks Bob.

What benefit would there be in using the "round" model somewhere else in the house as a device on the wireless netowrk but connected by ethernet? Would that improve coverage in any way?

The wireless coverage would improve in the area where the older AirPort Extreme might be located....but....wireless devices would only be able to connect at slower "g" wireless speeds in that area.

    Great. Thanks again.
