My 13" MacBook Pro (2009 mdoel with Moutain Lion) does not start up.
When I press the power button, it does not start.
I do see the white light on front right of the MacBook Pro. The battery is half full. I'm connected to a power cord (light on power cord is organge). I do not see any lights on the keyboard and nothing on the screen. I do hear a fan.
How do I get my MacBook to start up?

I have tried different power cable. The light comes on (white light front MacBook). I don't hear the normal start up tune.
What to do?
As you're running Mountain Lion, have you tried booting to the Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting)?
If you can get to the Recovery partition you can use Disk Utility to verify and, if needed, repair your hard drive.
If you can't boot to the Recovery partition, at least see if there is a hardware problem by running the Apple Hardware Test.

Go ahead and try it with the adapter plugged into mains. You can hold down the power button first, then jump to the Command and R keys to see if you can boot into the Recovery partition.

Clinton, Nothing happens. I pressed power on and followed by command + R. I kept pressing thes buttons for several minutes.
I have a black screen. I see the power light on (not flicking) - and I hear a fan. I did not get the start up tune.
The keyboard stays black. I do not see the green caps lock light.
Not sure what to do next.

Try the Apple Hardware Test (link above). If still no luck, it's time for a trip to the Apple Store (or your nearest AASP).

Hi I am facing the same issue with my MacBook pro. The machine is very hot and I tried to reboot using the control and 'R' key.
No change the machine is over 4 years old.
