can't access the preferences menu in face time

You didn't mention what device or operating systen you're using.

Here, I'm using 10.6.8 on an iMac, and the preferences for Facetime is grayed out when Facetime is "off."

When Facetime is turned to "on" access to the preferences function is enabled.

I've got a similar prob - am on a Mac Book Air, OSX 10.9.5

Face Time suddenly went weird. Lost a call, when brother called back I couldn't find the window to accept the call, and when I went into Preferences it's grey.

Face Time is on.

I quit, went back in, then it's black, but when i click on it it becomes grey again.

Weird.
