unable to sync my iPad, iPhone calendar to calendar on my Mac

I've been unable to sync my iPad, iPhone calendar with the calendar program on my Mac through iTunes. After following the instructions and checking the setting on the devices the problem continues. iTunes through my Mac will sync the calendars, contacts, events and the like between my iPhone and iPad. I have attempted restarts of all the devices in hopes it was a small glitch with them. The problem remains.
