I have a older version mac sw is 10.5.8 i have both ipad version 2 and iphone 4 what issues will i have if i elect to upgrade?

If you update those devices to iOS 6, you need to be running iTunes 10.6.3 to be able to sync them on Mac OS X 10.5.8.
If you purchase any of the current iOS devices or the seventh generation iPod nano, you need to upgrade your computer to Mac OS X 10.6 to be able to sync them. Mac OS X 10.6 requires an Intel Mac.
