appications unexpectedely quitting

My applications keep unexpectadely quitting on me. This has been happening for a few weeks and I've tried restarting which helps for a short while then they starting quiting again. It is not limited to just one application, it happens to all of them and it doesn't matter if there is only one application or more open at a time.
