In the Parallels configuration. You did download the documentation, right?
In your title you say partitions and in your question you say RAM. So which is it because partitions are for storage and RAM is the memory in the computer?

No I didn't! I thought I knew what I was doing! I downloaded the trial version as I am waiting for the purchased one to arrive.
I have parallels on my imac. I just want to use a few program's that have a windows platform but want to keep the impact minimal on the OS on my MBA.
Oh dear I am confused. I think I read that I could allocate 1GB ram to parallels to minimise the impact on the speed of the mba. I am asking how to do this.
Configure Parallels to allocate no more than half of your installed RAM in total. So that's RAM allocated to Windows plus RAM allocated for video plus the memory used by the Parallels application. The first two are configuration items for Parallels. The last one you find by using Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder to see how much real memory the application is using. For example after launching it on my computer Activity Monitor shows it is using 226 MB of RAM.
Hello. This is helpful. do I do this before I install Parallels (in which case, I'll need to uninstall first! ...or could it be once it is installed. I just installed the software without customising at all.
Thank you
Parallels does not create a "partition", but just a single large file.
The Ram setting in Parallels is there to restrict the ram use by Windows, which is only important when you leave Windows running all the time. If you are concerned about performance: close Parallels when you have no need for Windows.
No, I am referring to configuring Parallels within the application's preferences and setup for the VM you make.
It's unlikely that you have 4MB of RAM, I suspect you meant to say 4GB. I've successfully run Windows 7 with as little as 512 MB of RAM and it worked, 1 GB is definitely preferred.
Thank you Jason!
