what to do if the mac os 10.7.5 installer does not work since it freezes?

I found my MAC pro with troubles this morning: I was suggested to reinstall the mac os 10.7.5 and it went ok, but when I tried to update the system, it get blocked. I downloaded safari 6.0.2 with firefox, but when I tried to open the file, the installer did not go ahed and can be close only if I force the shut down.
