10.8.1 won't allow new mac mini to use icloud for email or notes. I gave apple a week. Now going with Gmail instead of icloud .me for synched email.

I noticed the HDMI issue shortly afer getting my new Mac Mini. I have it connected directly to an ASUS VW246H display via direct HDMI. Maybe it only affects users with only one display?  I dunno. It was happening with the 10.8.1 that was installed with I received the Mini and continues after updating to 10.8.2 and applying the supplemental update 2.0 to that.  It's not a deal breaker by any means for me as so for it's very interemittant and occasional and the display always returns in less than 5 seconds or so.  I'm hoping that 10.8.3, whenever that arrives, address it.

I wiped out my HD (reboot + Cmc + R)

I reinstalled the OS but still can"t update to 10.8.2...

I keep hearing everyone say that it will be fixed soon. What a broad term that is, and in the eye of the beholder, right? Well, My computer was working horribly, no mention from Apple of course, reinstall the OS to find out I can't update or download iPhoto. But it will all be fixed soon, according to them. Are we there yet? How about better communication? This is not some super secret product, it's the people that want to enjoy using your products that are currently being sold, BROKEN basically. All I want is better answers, not vague promises. And, if it doesn't get fixed SOON, then I will vote with my dollars next time.

I have the same issue. Was on the phone with Apple Care today for an hour and the final recommendation was to make an appointment with the Genius Bar. Based on this thread, it seems like that would be a waste of time. I will just keep monitoring this thread until there is a sign that the problem has been addressed. But the clock is kicking on my money back guarantee with Best Buy. If that deadline comes first, Mac Mini goes back to the store.

I'm disappointed too.  We just bought the Mac Mini 2012 to replace our aging 2007 Imac.  But we can't use Iphoto and there's the HDMI glitch that's been referenced elsewhere that's a real problem in a two monitor setup.  Really disappointing.  Surprising too as I can't remember the last time I had that feeling with a new Apple product.  These issues aren't the end of the world, but I guess I've come to expect so much more Apple.  When was the last time any of us bought an Apple product and weren't blown away from the start.  I'm actually on the verge of regretting not buying a Dell XPS One 27 inch touchscreen instead.

you cannot install iphoto and aperture if you just applied the patch 10.8.2... you need to wipe out your HDD and install full version of 10.8.2 as what I did and was able to install iphoto and aperture.....BUT even with full installation of 10.8.2 got still HDMI issue as what I'm facing right now.

    Where did you get 10.8.2?

  • babowa Level 7 Level 7 (25,670 points)

If yours is a 2012 machine, the update available at the moment is not for those machines; they have a different build and require a different update.

The update for most machines for 10.8.2 is build 12C60; the build for the 2012 machines for that update was 12C3006 before Apple removed it.

But build 12C60 was able to be applied to 2012 machines before the special update for 2012 machines came out. I'm running it on my 15" MBP-R.

You have to manually download the macbook retina 13" 10.8.2 update and you can download it from:

I just tested it and this is what I got on my 2012 MBP:

As this update is from October, it is the regular update for machines prior to mid/late (?) 2012's. We are supposed to test solutions before posting them; in any case, this will not work on 2012's.

    1. did fresh install including erasing everything on my hard drive using disk utility

    2. Install the os

    3. I went to that site and downloaded that build

4.Once installed i installed the remaining updates that showed in the app store
