Missing file prevents iTunes store from authorizing.

Not sure how to proceed... the shared folder is in place, and has correct permissions. No clue what file it is actually looking for. Any ideas?

My wife has an iphone that is synced to a windows computer using the same apple id. Could that be causing some issue?

"There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer.

The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions error and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed."

I tried deauthorizing (though I've never successfully authorized) and get the same message. I've looked around and it seems some people get similar problems if /User/Shared directory is missing. I've checked the existence of this folder, and the permissions. Just to be sure, I did a chmod 1777 on the dir, but nothing in the info changed. Seems maybe it actually is a file missing, but no clues which one.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the 'repair permissions' didn't help. Now when I connect the phone, I get a new message which is just lovely:

If you do not authorize this computer, 14 apps, including “Clear”, and their data will be deleted from this iPhone.

iTunes is the worst piece of garbage software I've ever had to use. How is it the people of the world have swallowed this nonsense for so long? Give me a Galaxy S over this nonsense ANY day.
