Why does video playback stutter in Aperture but not in QT?

I have a new 15" MacBook Pro Retina with 2.7 GHz Core i7 and 16GB of Memory. My Aperture Library is stored on the interinal 750GB SSD Drive which is less than half full. The operating system and all software are up to date.

For some reason, very often, when I play a video I've importanted from my iPhone it's very choppy (almost like it's playing back at 10 frames per second). If I take that same file and export the original to my desktop... and then play it with the QuickTime player... it plays back fine (smooth as can be).
