I followed the instructions implicitly and after the old ipod downloaded the computer indicated that I could eject the ipod. However, the ipod continues to flash "do not disconnect"-what the hey???!!!

I followed the instructions implicitly and after the old ipod downloaded the computer indicated that I could eject the ipod. However, the ipod continues to flash "do not disconnect"-what the hey???!!! I cannot get it to turn off or view the, supposedly downloaded, information. I am attempting to give this old ipod to a friend as I have one that is newer. This propriatary stuff is getting to be a bit much.
