It's highly unlikely that you have a virus - there are no known viruses out for OS X right now (there has been malware - see Thomas Reed's Mac Malware Guide).

Are you trying to open Hotmail in a browser window or are you using Apple Mail or Microsoft Outlook or something similar to retrieve and send messages using Hotmail?

You can't get a virus just by opening and reading an e-mail, and as has been already pointed out there are no viruses for Macs. Can you open other web-pages okay? What do you get when you try to open Hotmail? Try this: open System Preferences -> Network; select your network connection and then click 'Advanced' and select the 'DNS' tab; add the OpenDNS addresses which are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. Can you access Hotmail now?

Thanks for your help. that's not working either! ugh!!

I can open hotmail, but it's not formatting right, i can't open emails, nor send them.

Thank you so much for trying to help. I really appreciate it.

I understand that you can't get a virus by opening an email, but it seems way too circumstancial! This is my third mac -- because unlike PC -- I never had a problem. I understand this problem is not with my macbook, because every other website works fine -- it's hotmail!
