I guess my question is, what do I need to buy? And where? Because, I would find it horriblly ludicrous to have to purchase Snow Leopard then Lion then Mountain Lion (although I really would just like to upgrade up to Lion. That is where I would be content). So, my dear tech-savvy folks, what should I do?

You can bypass Lion and upgrade directly from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, but Snow Leopard is a prerequisite for either one.
You can also consider using Safari.
To upgrade from OS X 10.5.8, you must first buy Snow Leopard by calling the phone number in the Apple Online Store: 800-MY-APPLE (in the US). Snow Leopard costs $20, or $30 for a five user license. Do not obtain Snow Leopard from any source other than Apple.

So, I have Leopard, and I didn't want to update to a newer OS, but now the new Firefox isn't supported by Leopard.
