How to check fan's rMBP?

Dear,

My rMBP (allong with horrible image retention) get's overheated regulary. It become to hot to touch and my programs and graphics start to become very sluggish. The laptop becomes insanly hot at the arry above the F keys. Strange enough I've never heard the fans kick in, makes me wonder if they even work..? Is there a way (hardware test) to test the fan's?

Thanks

85ºC is pretty hot - I average about 64ºC with minimum use. Now when I'm, for instance, rendering a 3D image in Photoshop, temps can get up to 85º or higher and fans will ramp up to 6700 rpms.

I'm afraid that you're just going to have to take your machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP. Those temps just aren't normal for everyday use.

Good luck,

Then I think my computer does have a defect. The fan's should kick in without third party software. That explains why my computer starts to throttle. It doesn't get cooled down properly.

The image below is just from internet browsing. Note the high CPU2 temp and the low fan rate. On top of this my screen has bad image retention 😟

Thanks for all the help.

Your fans should be abobe 3000rpm if you're at the 77º mark - as I said, when I'm rendering, my temps and fans go up - nothing to worry about in that scenario.

In iStat Menus, set your fans to 'medium' - they should go up a bit.
