shortcut preview grab selection

Hi,

Is there a way to create a shortcut for Preview-Grab-Selection ? So after pressing 1 key I can make a selection with the mouse and the image is shown.

I tried to do it by automator but did not succeed. Also in Sytem Preferences, keyboardshortcuts it didn't work.

So, you want a Preview-specific shortcut, one that works while Preview has focus?

System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts

+ (to add new shortcut)

Application >>> Preview

Menu Title: From Selection… (press Option plus semicolon to generate the ellipsis dots)

Keyboard Shortcut: (your choice)

Tested under 10.6.8.

Hi mns579,

I try to get it done without Preview open . In Systen Preferences- Keyboard Shortcuts There is a command "Save picture of selected area as file" ,I changed the shortcut to 1 key . so that works fine without Preview open, but doesn't open the file directly, only saves it to desktop . It would be nice if this direct shortcut would work like in Preview-Selection you directly get to see the image.

Hi BDAqua,

Spark doesn't have any explanation onhow it works. so my question is can it ,without Preview open, make a shortcut for 1 key to "Save picture of selected area as file" and open it directly? As I said above I can get it to save to desktop with 1 key but it doesn't open directly,as Prview/Grab/Selection does. Can't it be done with applescript or automator?

Ah, Thank you. Shortcut key works ,opens Grab let you select and take picture and shows it on desktop.Very nice .But Grab stays open and the Spark deamon must run all the time. You can't have everything.

Two questions arises:

1/ Is there a script to add to this that closes Grab afterwards?

2/ Is there a shortkey for opening just a file ,without Spark, just a shortkey that opens/activate a scriptfile.

Thank again.

1/Thanks it works , but sorry . Offcause Grab has to stay open to show image. Foolish of me.

2/ well , just thought there is in osx a shortcut possibility to open/run a file ,an aplescript file. Instead of doing it via Spark.

Still interestig if it is possible to have a key just to do exactly what "Preview/File/Grab/Selection" does.

I'll look into those links .

Thanks again for your answers.

It's just a personal prefenrence ,I like the simple way, visually( no extra camerawindow and red lines), the shortcut "Save picture of selected area as a file" works on 1 key, if it would open also that would be perfect, just a visual thing.

b.t.w. when selecting with Grab the result window is smaller then the selection and with the blue scroll bars below and on one side, I have to resize the window manually, well maybe a osx 10.5.8 thing.
