Can I sync an iPad but omit one app update?

I have asked this question in iTunes without success so will try here for a wider audience.

I have a housebound relative who uses her iPad and Facebook as her link to the outside world.

There is a badge for the new Facebook app but looking at the comments about it the App update has caused many Facebook account to be rendered lmost unusable from n iOS device.. My relative does not want to upgrade the app until the problems are resolved for fear of losing the use of Facebook.

However he does keep her iPad Synced with iTunes regularly. So is there any way that an iTunes sync can be carried out but the Facebook app update omitted so in fact she keeps the current app she is using.

I think not but would welcome any suggestions.

Is the app on her computer's iTunes, and if so is it the new version or not ? If it's the new version then she can delete it from her computer's iTunes library which will stop the new version being synced to her iPad. When she then syncs her iPad it might copy the old version from the iPad to her computer's iTunes - but if she always downloads app updates on her computer then that will get updated on her computer to the new version again, so she will need to delete the app from her computer's iTunes before she syncs again.

Thank you for your reply.

On her PC it is the old version of Facebook that is in iTunes, the same as on her IPad.

Her worry is that is she syncs her iPad with iTunes to update contacts etc then when iTunes starts to sync her PC with her IPad it will automatically download the update for Facebook which wil then end up on her iPad. Or is this not necessarily so?

It will only update to the new version if she has the new version on her computer - if she has the old version on her computer's iTunes then it will leave the old version on her iPad.

Many thanks, I will do that for her tomorrow.

I was under the impression that iTunes on her PC would automatically grab the update and download that,
