I have read that several people have had this problem in the past but the newest Aperture update this week was suppsed to fix this: I just tried opening Aperture on my MBAir (2012) and I'm being asked for my serial number. Needless to say, I don't have it here at home. It's at the studio. Is there any way to fix this?

I repaired permissions. That seemed to be the problem. But I also dug up my old serial numbers from Aperture 1, 2, and 3. Note to others: you'll need ALL these serial numbers to reactivate Aperture. What a pain.
