My airport extreme 802.11n doesnt respond to pushing reset buttion?  I have tried the sequence for soft and hard, just seems my reset button doesn't work?

Any suggestions?

We rarely hear about a "broken" reset button, but that is a possibility.

Make sure that the AirPort Extreme is powered up

Hold in the reset button for 9-10 seconds, then release and let the AirPort restart

After a few seconds, you should see the amber light begin to blink quickly. Keep holding the reset button for the full 9-10 seconds

If the amber light does not blink quickly, unfortunately you do have a broken reset button.

If that is the case, it still might be possible to reset the AirPort Extreme back to factory default settings by using the AirPort Utility application. Post back if you need more details about this.

Ok, so I tried holding in the reset button for 9-10 seconds, no change, the light just stays solid green.  The procedure to reset back to factory default via the Utility w/o my admin password would be greatly apprciated!

    Thanks!

I am having the same issue - the amber light blinks then goes solid for 5-10 seconds and then goes out.

Not the same issue, my light never changes from solid green regardless of how long I push the reset button.

You will likely need the Base Station or "device" password to be able to access the settings in AirPort Utility.

Open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Extreme and click Manual Setup

Click the Base Station menu item at the very top of the screen and then click Restore Default Settings

I do not know if ths will work or not since I do not have an AirPort Extreme with a broken reset button to test.

Unfortunately, this is almost always a symptom of an internal power supply failure on the AirPort Extreme, and it will need to be replaced.

Thanks Bob - would I replace the power supply or the whole Time capsule?

Well there is the problem, my admin password quit working, thats why I am in this mess.

Unfortunatey, Apple does not offer repairs. If the Time Capsule is in warranty, or you have a Mac covered by AppleCare, Apple may replace the Time Capsule for you....but not the data on your old Time Capsule hard drive.

Repairs are possible through some independent specialists. See this link for more info on that:

If you used a Mac to set up the AirPort originally, it might be possible to retrieve that Base Station or device password from KeyChain Access.

If you used a PC to setup the AirPort, I do not know if Windows keeps a files of stored passwords for retrieval.

Turns out that my case is what is causing the reset button to "stick".  I decided I was going to open her up and thats when I heard the button click....so although the issue isn't resolved, there is an acceptable work around.  I just have to pull the case out before and after I initiate a reset.

Thanks Bob for all the ideas and input.

Thanks for this tip. I had the exact same problem and it was driving me crazy. I believe the button gets pushed out of the way when a hole has been punched through the reset "dimple" target from being used so much. Subsequently, any attempts to reset misses the button completely. A gentle pull on the casing lip just below the dimple target produces a very audible click that means the reset button is again ready for business.

Pulling on the lip around the bottom of the case worked like a charm for my stuck reset button too. Thanks for the advice!

Amazing! The gentle pull worked perfectly. Thank you so much. The click was loud just like you said.
