Tried to safe boot per advise in this article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455). Had trouble doing that via shift key so tried this advanced trick:

sudo nvram boot-args="-x"

Now my machine keeps restarting on login and is completely unusable! Anyone else have this problem, any advice on recovery? Wonder if there's any connection to having the disk encrypted. I'm running Mac OS X 10.8.2.

To undo this, you run this command:

sudo nvram boot-args=""

but I can't log in (or ssh to the computer) so can't run that command.
