Can an old Powerbook G4 be upgraded beyond OS 10.4.11?

Just bought a new printer for an old Powerbook G4. The HP printer only works with OS X 5 and newer. I can't seem to upgrade OS beyond 10.4.11. Is it possible?

PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

OS X 5 as it implies for printers typically means Mac OS X 10.5. The only problem is, some 10.5 software only is designed to work for Intel, and some for PowerPC. Can you verify if it is PowerPC or Intel from HP's website? What printer model are you looking at? Note, upgrading to 10.5 or later, you will lose access to Mac OS 9, the Classic environment, but you'll still be able to boot into 9 if it was possible before, as long as you don't erase your hard drive without 9 drivers. Backup your data before performing any upgrade.
