iPod Touch 4th Gen not Connecting to Netgear Network

I currently have a WNR 1000 (N150) Wireless router that is adament that it will not connect to my iPod Touch/Blackberry.
My current situation: at University who have a wireless network, however in the accomendation the wireless signal is too weak for my devices to pickup. My iPod connects fine to the University's network when in good range, as i have registered the MAC Address to the University.
This resorted in me buying a router which is plugged into the ethernet port in my wall.
My router connects happily to my Laptop, however i use my ethernet cable due to speed.
I have tried to connect my ipod to the wireless from the routers factory settings, nothing. Reset the wireless setting on my ipod, nothing. Changed from WPA-PSK[TKIP] to WPA2-PSK[AES] to WPA-PSK[TKIP]+ WPA2-PSK[AES] and still, nothing. I then changed my security option to OPEN, just to see if it was a password problem, yet still nothing.
I researched my matter online to find everyone completing the same steps that i have, including upgrading the firmware of the router (which i have done) also changed the Channel from Auto to various others while keeping it OPEN, nothing.
I looked up the situation on Netgears website and they said:
