I backed up my phone before updating the software, but now I can't find my pictures.  Help!

Did you restore from the backup? You should also have imported the photos to the computer like any other digital camera. Did you do that? While I will say the photos should have been in the backup and would have restored, it also tells you when you update that you could lose photos so you should import them.

How do you restore from the back-up?  I also lost all my contacts.  I unfortunately didn't import the photo's to the computer & I didn't see anything that told me that I might lose photos.

I'm not very good at this stuff, I'll admit

After you updated, it should have asked, unless you just updated from iOS 6 to 6.0.1. Contacts should be synced to a supported application on the computer, or iCloud. You would sync your contacts back from there in iTunes. Photos are designed to by imported, and should be on a regular basis since problems can occur with the phone and cause them to disappear.

    Newpuppy,

Before you have any more data loss, why don't you read the User Guide?  A copy is bookmarked in the Safari app on your phone.

ChrisJ4203, How do you restore from the back-up?  It's not sounding promising on getting photo's back, but I gotta try.  I will be quite upset if I can't get these pictures back.

I'm sorry, but you would have no one to blame but yourself for not importing them. To restore from a backup, connect the iPhone to the computer with iTunes running. Select the iPhone in the device pane on the left side. Right click and select restore from backup. It will ask you what backup, and you would use the latest one. Make sure, however, that you do not make a backup while there are no pictures in the camera roll, or the original backup will be erased.

You're right that I have no one else to blame & I wasn't trying to.  Just very ******.  Lesson learned.  I've tried to restore 3 times now, but it keeps telling me the restore failed as the phone disconnected....which it's not.  Not having a good night.

Thanks for all your help & knowledge, even though I can't get what I want
