Applications crash all the time

Question

Hello,Applications like Safary, FireFox, and Photoshop crash all the time after some 10-15 minutes of use. First I thought it was just an issue with my internet browsers but since I&#x27;ve been using PS for the last days it&#x27;s been happening a lot. I have a feelling it&#x27;s with all the applications used for long periods of time. My system is a 15" PowerBook G4 1.33GHz PowerPC G4 with 1.5 GB running Mac OS X 10.4.11. I&#x27;d really appreciate any input on this.Thank you.

You need lots of RAM and free hard drive space to run those applications on an old G4.How much of each do you have?

Thanks for response. My original post reads in bold letters most of my system&#x27;s specs including 1.5 GB for RAM, then my free HDD space is about 39 GBs out of 55. What you said relates to running PS although I&#x27;d expect slow rendering of images at high detail and not sudden crashes. Anyways, my current HDD capacity and RAM shouldn&#x27;t crash internet browsers consistently nearly 95% of the time after 10 minutes of use.I&#x27;m looking to see if someone knows about known issue with these old systems probably due to lack of updating from Apple or something like that. Reading one of the automated reports created at one of the crashes I read something about "... wrong instruction..." or so. Next time a crash generates a report I&#x27;ll make sure to post it.Look forward to more suggestions.

You probably need to clean out some cache files.Your browser crash may be a different issue. Post the full crash report next time it happens:Go to your Applications Folder and open your Utilities Folder. Open the application Console.In the left-hand column, click on Crash Reporter.Click on the small triangle under Crash Reporter in the l/h column and they will all be listed.Scroll down to the latest Safari report and click on it.Now click on the r/h column (which now only shows THAT crash report and then Command-a to copy it all.Come back here and Command-v it to post it here!

Mysteriously after posting previous comment my mac started behaving a lot better. The next few days after comment it worked very smoothly without crashes and issue has only repeated a couple of days with sporadic crashes after 2-3 hours of use &amp; some moments of painful crashes one after another. However, it&#x27;s been specific to Safari this time, haven&#x27;t used PS but used Word &amp; Excel significantly lately without issue.Anyways, this is a used mac I bought given the low price &amp; good condition mainly to have an experience using &amp; maintaining macs since I&#x27;m an IT Support Tech &amp; never even touched one. So, my question now is:Would a fresh install of Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.6 or so) maybe give me a more stable system?Thanks again in advance to whoever takes the time to read my noob questions :-)

I have a G4 Powerbook with 10.5.8 which is very reliable. If you have access to a retail 10.5.x installation disk I would try it rather than buying one as they are expensive. Yeah I don&#x27;t think I have a choice if I want to get anymore juice out of this Mac, it would be a shame not to get at least 1 more year out of it since they have such good keyboard &amp;amp; overall quality. I may be able to get 10.5.x install cd from eBay, I just let one go last week for $54.Thx a lot for reply.
