PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105 does not "see" any cd-r's or dvd's
hello all...today i tried to play a cd on my internal dvr-105...nothing. no icon on the desktop. i took the disk out and inserted in my lacie drive and no problems seeing/reading disk. i did a little research: drive is seen in the system profiler on all the menus (disc burning, firewire, etc) and shows up on toast menu. i do notice that the drive does not "spin up" when i insert any type of disc. I finally verified/repair disc in the utility and still nothing. i have restarted a number of times. i'm running os 10.4.6. any help would be great - this is scary.
I'm having a similar problem, but mine is cuz the drive physically hurts the CD/DVD. If I buy a new DVR-110/111 is this something I can install myself? I have the DVR-105 out of the tower, and just want to replace it. Macmall said I have to send it to Apple and will cost upwards of 300 bucks. I'm new to Mac, so any help will be appreciated.
Yes, the drive is very easy to install. Make sure that you set the new drive's jumpers to the same as the original drive. Also remove the new drive's try faceplate (bezel) before installing in your machine or the tray will jam when exiting the machine case. Your manual for the machine will show how to install a new drive. You can download the manual from the Support tab and select your machine. If you have an MDD, you can install up to 2 removeable disc drives.
I'd like to add my problem to this ongoing problem! my PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105, plays DVD's fine, but won't read or burn blank discs. It was working fine, I have three archive DVD's burnt, ok. Now, nada. Surely I don't need to replace the drive as it reads Movie DVD's fine!, I've changed discs, I've cleaned the laser, still no joy.
" but won't read or burn blank discs" -- chances are that it is a media-compatability issue, since this drive only burns to 4X DVD-R media, most newer media will likely be a problem unless it specifically states 1-16X compatability, and even then you need to make sure it is a quality brand such as Verbatim, TDK, Maxell, Sony (Made in Japan).
This is very interesting, because I'm having a similar problem, but I have yet to upgrade. I'm still using OS X 10.3.9.
I have to wonder then, if it's not the drive itself, because last year around this same time (right in the middle of Summer when it started to get really warm) it refused to read certain burnt disks, both CDs and DVDs. Now it's not even mounting them.
I've tried everything that Apple suggests to solve the problem, but nothing's working. I fear I may have to buy a new burner, since this one seems to be fussy.
If you opt to replace, DVR-111D is under $40 online, don't pay retail, there is no quality difference between "OEM PC" drives and retail box versions of the same unit (DVR-710, etc.,).
