Partitioning in Bootcamp using Mountain Lion

When trying to download Mountain Lion, I was given an error message that stated that there was a conflict with Bootcamp. I went to Disk Utilities and Erased Bootcamp, hoping that would solve the problem and was correct. However, now that Mountain Lion is downloaded, I have Bootcamp as a slot appearing like my Harddrive, but there's no information. When I try and partition again to download Windows 7, I'm given an error message "The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."

How do I do this?

I've gone to the Partition tab, but not finding an option to delete the Bootcamp partition - the other being my main harddrive. It did allow me to partition either one, and I'll try to use Bootcamp Assistant to remove one of them, but earlier attempts wouldn't ever show the partitioning option. That's why it gave the error message.

Nevermind - I figured out the +/- tools and deleted the Bootcamp partition, but afterwards using Bootcamp Assistant, it still won't give me the partitioning option. Unsure why.

Still giving the same error message as before.

Because you removed the original partition incorrectly.

Clone your drive, erase your drive, repartition your drive and then restore your clone.

I grabbed a trial version of CCC, cloned a second drive after partitioning the main. Once done, I booted into the second and then recopied (cloned) to the first again, after erasing it. Both are available now through Startup Disk and when rebooting and holding down Option. Should I now erase the second and then try to use Bootcamp Assistant and partition through that?
