No. Your model does not have a Thunderbolt port.
But there is a "twin" of that display in the store that uses only a Mini DisplayPort.
The Thunderbolt Display actually should work if you have a Mini DisplayPort but with no support for any of the external inputs (FireWire 800, USB, Ethernet port that are built into the display), because they are the same as far as I know, except Thunderbolt is faster (for external hard drives).

No - you must have a Thunderbolt port, which the 2008 model lacks. You could use the Apple Cinema Display - same price but doesn't have the 'docking' capabilities of the Apple Thunderbolt Display.
