Will sync manual mode work if I want to sync music from my imac but everything else (apps etc) from my macbook?

My Imac is shared (my husband and myself.) We keep all music here. We both have an iphone 4s. I have a laptop where I would like to keep my apps seperate. (He uses the imac mostly) I just want to get music from the imac to my iphone 4s. Both computers are authorised for my itunes account.
