I'm running 10..4.11 on a PPC G5 iMac. My Epson 740i printer has finally given up the ghost after 12 years. I'd like to buy an all-in-one printer but every one I've looked at lists 10.5 as a minimum requirement. Are there any new printers that can operate with Tiger?

If you need an all in one, you might have to buy used or refurb, here the list of included drivers in 10.4, there were additional few added up through 10.4.11

I think Brother has about the best support for a broad range of OSX versions. Sometimes you can use older hp drivers on newer hp printers, but not sure scanning/faxing would work.

I actually saw a Brother printer at Office Depot that was 10.4.11-compatible, but, significantly, Office Depot didn't carry any Brother ink cartridges. Not much point in buying a printer if the ink cartridges aren't readily available--I was already having that issue with the Epson 740i.

By the way my new Brother printers work fine with my PowerBooks running OS X 10.4.11 and every OS X version since.
How's the color on yours, my MFC-290c is terrible!?
It's at least as good as the POS HP Photosmart it replaced, but its ink costs a fraction as much. I can discern no difference in photo quality.
I have a MFC-J825DW which is AirPrint compatible, and an MFC-J615W, which is not. They're both quite good. I buy generic ink.
From the looks of it the MFC-290c was an early attempt that did not go so well. Its reviews are 180° different from Brother's newer models.
Before buying this printer I hated inkjets with a purple passion. On the other hand I have an HP LaserJet that is completely bulletproof, and works as well with my Mountain Lion Macs as it did with my SE/30 when I bought it in 1993.
Thanks John, only bought this one because an entity demanded 2 Faxes for Federal proof... cost $59, while a FAX only machine was $39!???
Scanned a few things & wasn't impressed, printed a few docs & less impressed, printed a few photos on photo paper & really was not impressed... worse than an old Canon 4550, which was previously the worst printer I've ever had, but it cost $600! 😟

You might have a hard time finding a new printer in stores that is compatible with 10.4. So, try your luck with the on-line sales sites, for example www.staples.com and search for "refurbished" printers. You can find some of the older models that will be supported in 10.4 if you look at the detailed system requirements.

Try other local stores that are also on-line sellers, they may have a free-ship-to-store option, if you have a local store that is convenient also. I found a refurbished Brother MFC-8660DN a few years ago that is supported under OS 9 from Staples on-line.
Another way to see if a particular model is supported under a particular OS, is look on the Support/Download section for HP, EPSON, Brother, Lexmark, etc, for OS drivers and see which driver versions are available for each Mac OS version.
