Help With Display

I am a student, and move my MacBook Pro around a lot. Wires are cumbersome, and I hate having to deal with them everytime I want to move my MacBook Pro from my desk. Right now the only wired connectionI have left is the HDMI from my MacBook to my external monitor. I really like having the external monitor for productivity reasons, but I hate unplugging the HDMI cable everytime I want to move my MacBook. I have been looking around for sometime and saw both Apple TV and WiDi, and thoguht they could be options.

Basiacally, I want to be able to mave my MacBook Pro from my desk without having to disconnect any wires, and still be able to connect to a display when at my desk. Thanks in advance for you help. If I need to clarify anything please let me know with a comment.
