No Airplay on Apple TV from Macbook Air

I have a mid-2011 Macbook Air and a brand new Apple TV but cannot get the Airplay icon to appear on my machine. I have no problem using the Apple TV with my iPhone or iPad. I have confirmed I have the most current updates and restarted the Apple TV. What can I try now?

You indicated that you have the most current updates but you did not specify which OS you're using. The mid-2011 MBA came with Lion that does not support AirPlay, are you running Mt. Lion?
