How do I update my ipod touch 4g from ios 4.3.5 to ios 6.0.1 without losing my app data(such as my progress in games)

i have a ipod touch and want to update from ios 4.3.5 to ios 6.0.1(the newest). how do i do that without losing the progress in my games that i downloaded from appstore? Pls Help!

Sync it with your computer. It should back up the iPod automatically. Then, click on Update in iTunes. It will create another backup of your iPod and automatically restore it which restores game data, settings, pictures etc.

Backing up saves your settings and other stuff on core apps but it doesnt save your appdata(that's is the main thing i am looking for) so it wont restore that when i restore it from the backup i create and this article too says it http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972 so i would like too know how do i keep my data stored in apps from the appstore if there is any way to keep the data. Thanks anyway. If anyone else knows a way then please help as i accidentally clicked on this solved my question. :|
