I have deleted a contact and yet when I go to message and put in the 1st letter of the contact, it comes up as a c hoice. How do I delete this # from the memory?

I have deleted a contact but when I go to message and input the 1st letter of the former contact name, it pulls up the #. How do I delete this from the memory?
